Case in point 

Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL) Implementation

Background

Customer who required their Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software to be safety-compliant, with an Integrity Level of ASIL B and SC3 compliance while maintaining optimal performance and functionality.

Solution Approach

To meet the customer’s requirements, Smartbytes Technology developed a comprehensive solution that incorporated several safety measures into the ECU software.

1. By Enabled the safe WDG

  • This is to ensure there is no Software Freeze,- Alive Monitoring, Sequence monitoring, or Deadline monitoring of our ECU.
  • To find the system clock jitter to ensure minimum timing jitter and minimum latencies.

2. Defined the Safety architecture to achieve the Freedom from Interference and so as to be safety compliant

3. Enabled memory protection using ECC and CRC mechanisms

  • To detect and correct the memory corruption

4. Perform the memory mapping for the complete Autosar compliant ECU software which includes MCAL, BSW & Application components. Used the vector Autosar modules memmap & VlinkGen to configure the memory sections and linker sections.

  • For efficient usage of RAM.
  • Provides feasibility for usage of specific RAM/ROM properties.
  • Provides feasibility to use same source code of a module for boot loader and application Prerequisite to enable Memory Protection and Partitioning for ECUDefined the Safety architecture to achieve the Freedom from Interference and so as to be safety compliant.
  • Prerequisite to enable Memory Protection and Partitioning for ECU

5. Enabled the vector MPU module to configure the memory partition areas and enable the protection along with the inbuilt hardware MPU

Outcome

Together we affirmed the successful attainment of ASIL B safety requirements and also delivered comprehensive safety compliance, efficient memory mapping, and reliable performance.
